Game & Watch: Donkey Kong Jr. (DSiWare) Review

A portable taste of Donkey Kong Jr.
The original Donkey Kong is one of my favourite classic arcade games and seeing that Donkey Kong Jr. is now available in the DSi Shop for only 200 points. I downloaded right away. In Donkey Kong Jr, you play Donkey Kong Jr, no duh, and you got to get Donkey Kong free from the clutches of Mario. The graphics are the usual coloured background and for the characters or whatever moves is in black. For a game that uses one background, this is the most action you'll see in a Game & Watch game. The audio is the usual one sound when something moves. But this title stands out from most of the other G&W titles in it's gameplay. You have the D-pad and the a button is used for jumping. You start at the bottom left of the screen, move left, jump over these things that look like mini alligators and dodge birds flying at you. When you get to the top half of the screen, you move right and you try to get to the key to free Donkey Kong. Get the key 4 times and Donkey Kong is free. Get high scores, game a & b & since it's a Game & Watch game, you also get the time. I believe Donkey Kong Jr, Flagman & Ball might be the last of the Game & Watch titles Nintendo will put up on the DSi Shop for now. But until then this is probably the best Game & Watch title next to Game & Watch Helmet or Mario's Cement Factory. This will just give you a taste of what the full game is and hopefully Nintendo will release the original Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. up soon. But until then, definitely download this classic piece of portable gaming action. I'm giving Game & Watch: Donkey Kong Jr. a 8.5 out of 10.
