All Star Air Hockey (DSiWare) Review

It shoots but does it score?

Even on my birthday (yes today I turn 19) I'm reviewing games, today I'm taking a look at All Star Air Hockey for the DSiWare & All Star Air Hockey feels like something you'd see in an NHL game as an unlockable mini-game but it's for the DSiWare instead and costs only 2 bucks. So far, we're off to a good start since it's cheap. Now, there's no NHL teams sadly, which is what I'd rather have but instead you pick from one of 8 country teams, there's Germany, Japan, Canada, Russia, Finland, USA, Sweden or UK. Now as for the graphics, there's not much going on but it's a top down view of a air hockey table and also it's a 2 dollar game, what are you expecting? I love the sounds of whatever the puck hits, it sounds great. Now there's 2 different modes, there's a practice mode, which to me was just quick play. Why didn't they just call it quick play? God only knows. The other mode is Tournament mode, which is just the playoffs where you beat a team, move on, beat another team, move on and beat the final team and you win. There's no achievements of some sort , no multiplayer, no unlockables. Nothing, there's just the 8 teams, 2 modes and the score goes up to 7. Whoever gets up to 7 first wins. The only control in the game is you use the touch screen to hold on to and move your paddle (I call it a pad or a paddle) but I really wished they had an option for d-pad controls. Now it feels exactly like a real air hockey game, I used to own an air hockey table and there are the moments where the puck is halfway in the net but it'll slide right out, those moments are in here and I was so happy. This isn't that bad of a portable hockey game, considering this is the first GOOD hockey game I've played on my DSi. Backyard Hockey is a complete waste of time & money and the hockey mini-game in Globz Party was fun but All Star Air Hockey is the hockey game I want to play & even though I'd rather have the licensed NHL teams like the Leafs, Canucks, Oilers to name a few. I loved All Star Air Hockey, it may have its problems here & there but this is the closest to the hockey that I want to play on my DSi and I hope Skyworks Interactive brings another hockey game to the DSi Shop soon, and hopefully it'll be the NHL game I've been wanting to play because we all know EA Sports isn't going to bring an NHL game to the DSi anytime soon. All Star Air Hockey on the DSiWare is getting an 8.0 out of 10. If you're a hockey fan and have been waiting for hockey for your DSi, definitely download this one today.

Remote Racers (DSiWare) Review

Qubic Games goes from the sky to the ground with their new racing game.


Remote Racers comes from the same guys who brought us AiRace & AiRace: Tunnel for the DSiWare. Now, I loved AiRace, hell I still do. I still love to play it, it's still fun. It's a great game and when I saw the trailer for this, I was honest to God looking forward to it...and after just ONE race, I went back to playing AiRace. Remote Racers feels like it is a step back. Coming off of AiRace, you would want to think about making your next game, maybe, more awesome. But this, it looks good at times and then the other half the time, it looks bad, not really bad but not as great as AiRace looked. The controls is where the game falls apart, one touch on the left or right on the D-pad and your car is out of control. There are 8 racers to pick from, but when you first play it, there are only 2 racers to choose from. You have to unlock them all and out of all the races I played, I never unlocked any and with how bad the game is, I really didn't want to stick around, after every time I was done playing 1 or 2 races in Remote, I went right back into playing AiRace. The only good parts about Remote Racers is even though it's a car racing game, the moment you touch water, the car or whatever you're driving, turns into a boat, which is pretty cool and the tracks seem alot bigger than the tracks in AiRace but honestly after seeing how bad this is, don't play it. You're better off playing AiRace. AiRace IS the better racing game and AiRace is worth your money. Remote Racers isn't. Remote Racers on the DSiWare is getting a 3.5 out of 10. Just spend the extra few Nintendo Points and get AiRace.

Angry Birds (iTouch) Review

These birds are angry.

Angry Birds is the highly addictive & popular game that's taking the world over by storm. I played it once and I just got hooked, I thought about it when I wasn't playing it. It's a hell of alot of fun, you control the birds and you just try and take down the pigs. The controls are just, you pull back on the bird and watch the little bugger fly and crash into the pigs, kill all the pigs and you win the level and move onto the next one. The graphics is, to me, the best part about the game because of it's bright colourful design is one reason I keep coming back to play more. I had alot of fun playing Angry Birds, that I would sometimes stop playing Chinatown Wars on the iTouch just so I can play Angry Birds. I don't know what else to say about Angry Birds. It's fun, it's addicting, it's charming, it's awesome, it's a 9.0 out of 10.

Fruit Ninja (iTouch) Review

Slice & dice.

Fruit Ninja is a great time waster to play on your iPod Touch or iPhone, the game is really REALLY simple, slice the fruit. Your finger becomes the sword, swipe it across the screen when a fruit comes up and boom, you get a high score. I can't say much about the graphics, considering the main thing you see is a bunch of fruits, sliced and not sliced (yet) & bombs. Yes, there are bombs in the game, if you slice a bomb, it's game over or if you miss slicing 3 fruits, game over. Adds a little challenge, which I really liked about the game. I've heard there's online multiplayer & achievements for the game but I didn't really know where to go for that in the menu, I just went right for Zen, which is basically Quick play. In the end, I had a hell of a lot of fun with Fruit Ninja and maybe I'll put up a review of the online multiplayer after the wifi in my apartment is fixed but just the single player, get a high score Fruit Ninja, it's a hell of a lot of fun and it's a great time waster. Fruit Ninja on the iPod Touch is getting an 8.5 out of 10.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (iTouch) Review

Liberty City on the go.

Alright, this is the last review for Grand Theft February and it's the iTouch version of Chinatown Wars, I already reviewed the DS last year. Now how does the iTouch version compare? Well, for one it looks a hell of a lot better then the DS version. It took about 20 minutes for me to get used to the controls, I had to keep telling myself this wasn't the DS version. But for the controls, it is really simple and I liked what Rockstar did, they kept it simple. It's the same story, you play as Huang Lee, you come into Liberty City with Yu Jian, a sword and you're left for the dead at the very start of the game. It's how you get greeted in Liberty City. Now to be honest I never really did finish the game, I'm still getting through the story in this version but that's because, to me, the game felt like the difficulty went up a little from the DS version. Hell, I even went back and messed around with the DS version and even though it looks alot nicer on the iTouch, I don't think you need to buy this unless you only have a iPod Touch or iPhone and you never played the DS version. If you have played the DS version, stick with that. That is the version to stick with, it's the best version and it just feels a whole lot better on the DS. That being said, it is really cool that you can kill on the go, if you haven't already on the DS, and if you haven't played it on the DS, do not miss it out on your iPod Touch or iPhone. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is getting an 8.5 out of 10.

Grand Theft Auto 4 The Complete Edition (360) Review

The Full Liberty City Experience

Grand Theft Auto 4 The Complete Edition is Grand Theft Auto 4, The Lost & Damned & The Ballad of Gay Tony. All 3 games for 40 dollars. I can say it's alot cheaper then buying GTA4 & Episodes from Liberty City separate. If you're going to go buy GTA4, don't buy it alone, that's 20 dollars and then Episodes from Liberty City is 30 dollars. That's 50 bucks altogether, just cheap out and get all 3 games for 40 bucks. It's worth it, you get it all for 40 bucks here. Even though Lost & Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony isn't as incredible as Grand Theft Auto 4, but it's just that all 3 games for a low price is amazing deal and now I don't need to spend money for Microsoft points to get them downloaded to my Xbox. It's cheaper & better on disc. You all know what I think of each of the GTAs in the GTA4 trilogy, and that's why I'm giving Grand Theft Auto 4 The Complete Edition a 10 out of 10.

Grand Theft Auto 4: The Ballad of Gay Tony (360) Review

Time to end the Liberty City trilogy with a bang.

The Ballad of Gay Tony is the 3rd and final piece of DLC for Grand Theft Auto 4. The Ballad of Gay Tony puts you into the world of Luis Lopez. Luis is Anthony "Gay Tony" Prince's personal bodyguard, and you go through the clubs & nightlife of Liberty City. Ballad is my 3rd favourite GTA, next to Vice City, because it's so flashy, all the bright colours and neon gave it a Vice City feel to it, along with the Vice City FM. Maybe it's a hint at Rockstar's next GTA. The story in this one is you're Luis, the story starts out during the bank heist mission from GTA4, and to see possibly the greatest GTA mission ever from a different angle was really cool. The only problems I had with Ballad are the dancing. I couldn't stand the dancing, the controls for the dancing got confusing and dancing became my least favourite mini-game really quick. My favourite mini-game from Ballad was the parachuting. Once again, Rockstar nailed it with the writing, and the characters. It is extremely hilarious to see Brucie, from this view. This has to be the most action-packed game I've ever played, has there ever been a game where you're on top of a subway shooting down helicopters because you're stealing the subway car? If you haven't played Ballad yet, I won't spoil much for you but all I got to say is why haven't you played this yet? The multiplayer is as strong as it was when GTA4 came out and it's still going strong, not hard at all to find a match and it's fun as hell playing online. The Ballad of Gay Tony is a great way to end the GTA4 trilogy and it's cool to see what happened to the diamonds at the end of it all. The Ballad of Gay Tony is a lot of fun to play, except for the dancing and I hated that it was an actual mission. But it's time to score it up and The Ballad of Gay Tony for the 360 is getting an 8.5 out of 10.
